MRV
Transparent control and guarantee
Due to the immutable nature of the stored biomass, our Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) framework is robust and clear.
Monitoring
Before a pile goes into the ground, we measure the exact volume to accurately calculate the removed CO₂.
We press the spruce trunk with the top (narrowest end) first into a deep peat or clay layer, until the top is at least 50 cm below the groundwater level.
Reporting (Transparent data)
We record the exact GPS locations and depth of the piles via a pile plan and shareable .kml files.
Groundwater levels at the time of installation (monitored by the Water Authorities) are tracked online via public sources such as Dinoloket. We check twice a year per project whether the groundwater level has changed.
Via satellite images (such as Google Earth) we check annually whether the building or infrastructure is still on top of the wooden pile foundation.
Verification & Security
The anoxic conditions prevent oxidation. Building regulations also stipulate that old wooden foundations must remain in the ground, even if a building is demolished.
Should the above-ground situation change, we carry out a physical inspection.
Buffer Pool: As an extra safety measure, we keep 2% of all removal certificates unsold in reserve. Should a pile need to be removed, we retire certificates from this pool.
